Gynecologic Surgery

Gynecologic surgery is a minimally invasive way to correct fertility issues

Doctors at our Central Texas fertility clinic provide leading-edge, evidence-based gynecologic surgery. This type of surgery allows many patients to bypass more invasive procedures and overcome fertility issues caused by a range of conditions. Our specialists have extensive training in surgeries for gynecological issues and provide high-quality, safe care. We also stay on the forefront of surgical approaches to ensure we’re utilizing the most effective, advanced options.

Gynecologic surgery for diagnosis and treatment

If standard fertility tests such as ultrasound, blood tests and hysterosalpingogram (HSG) do not result in a diagnosis, our fertility specialists might recommend one of our diagnostic surgeries for gynecological issues. Our skilled reproductive endocrinologists can use laparoscopic gynecologic surgery to diagnose hidden issues that can affect fertility, such as endometriosis, structural issues with the uterus, or pelvic problems.

Minimally invasive surgery can also be an effective treatment for some fertility challenges. With surgeries for gynecological issues, our doctors can remove scar tissue, endometrial implants and uterine fibroids, and can correct other issues that can affect a patient’s reproductive health.

Our patients benefit from our minimally invasive surgery approach in several ways.

Small incisions. The minimally invasive fertility surgery that requires an incision, laparoscopy, only involves a few small incisions in the patient’s belly button. The other minimally invasive surgery, hysteroscopy, requires no incisions.

Quick recovery. With minimally invasive surgery, most patients can resume normal activity one to three days after the procedure.

Minimal discomfort. Because these fertility procedures do not require large incisions, many patients experience very little discomfort during recovery.

Thanks to advances in assisted reproductive technologies and our highly trained surgical team, our Central Texas fertility clinic can offer patients the numerous benefits of advanced gynecologic surgeries. Often, these benefits can resolve the causes of infertility and lead to a healthy pregnancy.

Discover what happens during surgeries for gynecological issues

Patients with certain fertility needs might require one of two types of surgeries for gynecological issues: laparoscopy or hysteroscopy. These procedures are very similar, but have slight differences that make each an ideal option for certain fertility issues.

These gynecologic surgeries begin with an anesthesiologist sedating the patient. The doctor then inserts a small, lighted, flexible scope tool through an incision or the woman’s cervix, depending on what type of procedure they’re performing. The scope transmits images to a monitor, giving the surgeon an in-depth view of the patient’s abdominal organs. The doctor can also utilize small, specialized tools to take a biopsy or remove other material during the procedure.

Which gynecologic surgery the doctor recommends will depend on the patient’s fertility care needs.

Laparoscopy. A laparoscopy allows for the evaluation and treatment of fertility challenges such as endometriosis, scar tissue or fibroids. This surgery involves the doctor inserting the laparoscope through two or three incisions in the patient’s belly button.

Hysteroscopy. Doctors can use hysteroscopy to evaluate and treat issues such as a uterine septum, polyps or fibroids. In this procedure, the doctor passes the hysteroscope through the woman’s cervix.
