Clomid for Men

Clomid for men can increase sperm count and testosterone levels

Some men with low sperm count also have low testosterone production. In some cases, medical treatment can successfully increase both sperm count and testosterone production. Counterintuitively, a man should not take testosterone if pregnancy is the goal, since testosterone supplementation will lead to a significant reduction in sperm count – possibly even to undetectable levels. Thankfully, treatments including Clomid for men can often help when low T affects sperm production.

Clomid, or clomiphene, works essentially the same way in both women and men

Clomiphene increases the secretion of pituitary (brain) hormones, including follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). In women, FSH helps ovarian follicles develop mature eggs that can be ovulated. In men, FSH signals the testicles to increase sperm production. Side effects of Clomid for men are typically minimal. In addition, a resulting increase in testosterone production will frequently improve mood, reduce fatigue and increase libido.

A TFC study showed how effective Clomid for men can be

As one of the first fertility practices in Texas, with more than 30 years of experience, TFC can boast of our history in this field. Our physicians were among the first to identify through research that a significant percentage of men with low FSH, LH and testosterone levels responded to clomiphene by markedly raising their sperm count. In some men, this increase in sperm production was so profound that intrauterine insemination, (or IUI), became a legitimate treatment option for fertility instead of only the option of in vitro fertilization (IVF).

It typically takes about 90 days for sperm produced in the testicles to be ejaculated. Therefore, it can three to four months to see the maximal result from Clomid for men. Some couples may choose to postpone fertility treatments until sperm counts have come into a better range, whereas others may choose to pursue treatments like IUI or IVF, in which even very few sperm can be used to achieve a successful pregnancy.

Before starting clomiphene treatment, it is important to be evaluated by a male fertility urologist. In rare cases, low sperm counts can indicate a more complex issue, such as varicoceles, brain hormone deficiencies, chromosome problems or even testicular cancer.
